ADAMS: John’s Book of Alleged Dances
ADAMS: String Quartet No. 1
BEETHOVEN: String Quartet in A minor, Op. 132

Praised by The New York Times for its “rare gift for combining interpretive spontaneity and fierce musical commitment,” the St. Lawrence String Quartet returns to Orange County for the 70th birthday celebration of American composer John Adams.

Passionate and dynamic performers, the St. Lawrence String Quartet has a close association with John Adams; after hearing the quartet in concert, Adams was inspired to write works specifically for the quartet. In January 2009, the St. Lawrence String Quartet premiered Adams’ “String Quartet,” which was composed with them in mind. In March 2012, the St. Lawrence String Quartet collaborated with the San Francisco Symphony to premiere Adams’ “Absolute Jest,” also composed for the quartet. Since 1998, the St. Lawrence String Quartet has served as Ensemble-in-Residence at Stanford University.
