Widely considered one of the world's greatest orchestras, the Berlin Philharmonic makes a rare West Coast appearance and its first Orange County appearance in 15 years under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle.
Founded in 1882, the Berlin Philharmonic enjoys an international reputation as one of the world's greatest orchestras, and boasts an illustrious roster of principal conductors who shaped the orchestra's distinctive and incomparable performing style, including Hans von Bülow, Arthur Nikisch, Wilhelm Furtwängler, Herbert von Karajan, and Claudio Abbado.
An enthralling conductor, Sir Simon Rattle was appointed Chief Conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic in 2002, and has since made numerous award-winning recordings with the orchestra. Rattle, who leaves his position with the Berlin Philharmonic in 2018, will serve as Music Director of the London Symphony Orchestra beginning September 2017.
