Orange County Youth Symphony
Johannes Müller Stosch, music director
Orange County Youth Strings Ensemble

Prelude Concert by Orange County Youth Strings Ensemble at 3pm

MENDELSSOHN: The Hebrides Overture, Op. 26, “Fingal’s Cave”
SUK: Scherzo fantastique, Op. 25
DVORÁK: Symphony No. 8 in G major, Op. 88

In his inaugural appearance as Music Director, Johannes Müller Stosch leads the Orange County Youth Symphony as it launches its 50th anniversary season. The program foils Dvorak’s lively Symphony No. 8, inspired by the composer’s love for Bohemian folk music, with the stormy and rolling melodies of Mendelssohn’s musical interpretation of the Scottish landscape.

Founded in 1970, the Orange County Youth Symphony is the official youth orchestra of Orange County. The diverse roster represents student musicians from nearly 50 high school and college programs from San Clemente to Fullerton and beyond. The Orange County Youth Symphony community of young musicians and their families is particularly committed to advancing and sharing the intercultural love of orchestral music. They serve as music ambassadors to each other and to the local schools, districts, and cities. With the support of a small staff and board, the orchestra is energetically led by the music director and conductor, Johannes Müller Stosch.
