New Cadenzas written and performed by Hilary Hahn
Commissioned by the Philharmonic Society of Orange County
Named "America's Best Young Classical Musician" by Time magazine (2001), violinist Hilary Hahn continues to awe audiences with her second virtual artist-in-residence performance featuring Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5 “The Turkish” with newly commissioned cadenzas written by Hilary herself. Hahn's residency is an exclusive series for the Philharmonic Society which will feature the premiere of a new commissioned piece by composer Michael Abels, who is best known for scoring the Academy Award-winning film Get Out and the highly anticipated follow-up Us, for which he was awarded "Discovery of the Year" at the 2019 World Soundtrack Awards.
Hahn is a prolific and celebrated recording artist whose nineteen feature albums on Decca, Deutsche Grammophon, and Sony have all opened in the top ten of the Billboard charts. At the age of 10 she was admitted to the Curtis Institute of Music, and at 17 made her recording debut, effectively launching her career. Three of Hahn’s albums—her 2003 Brahms and Stravinsky concerto album, a 2008 pairing of the Schoenberg and Sibelius concerti, and her 2013 recording of In 27 Pieces: the Hilary Hahn Encores—have been awarded Grammys. Jennifer Higdon’s Violin Concerto, which was written for Hahn and which she recorded along with the Tchaikovsky concerto, went on to win the Pulitzer Prize.
