Grammy-nominated and Latin Grammy-winning pianist Gabriela Montero joins Musical America’s 2019 Conductor of the Year Carlos Miguel Prieto and the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico in a riveting performance concluding with the thundering rhythms of Revuelta’s The Night of the Mayas.

Leading Mexico’s premier orchestra, Carlos Miguel Prieto is recognized as the foremost Mexican conductor of his generation. He possesses a wide-ranging repertoire, has led over 100 world premieres, and is a champion of American and Latin American composers. His recordings have received many honors, including an Opus Klassik award, inclusion in the Gramophone Critics’ Choice listing in 2017, and two Grammy nominations. Prieto also concurrently serves as Music Director for the Orchestra of the Americas alongside Gustavo Dudamel.

Pianist Gabriela Montero’s visionary musical interpretations and mesmerizing stage presence have garnered her critical acclaim and a devoted following on the world stage. The New York Times praises, “Montero’s playing had everything: crackling rhythmic brio, subtle shadings, steely power…soulful lyricism…[and] unsentimental expressivity.” The acclaimed pianist has shared the stage with orchestras from all over the world, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Rotterdam Philharmonic, and New York Philharmonic, and was chosen to perform at the inauguration of U.S. president Barack Obama in 2009 alongside Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, and Anthony McGill.
