TCHAIKOVSKY: Symphony No. 6 in B minor, Op. 74 “Pathétique”

Winner of the 2013 Gold Medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, Vadym Kholodenko is quickly building a reputation as one of the most musically dynamic and technically gifted performers of the new generation of pianists. Kholodenko has received critical acclaim for his recordings, including being awarded Gramophone’s “Editor’s Choice” for his recording of Grieg’s Piano Concerto and Saint-Saëns’s Piano Concerto No. 2 (2015).

Founded in 1943, the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra is one of the oldest symphony orchestras in Russia and is considered one of the best symphonic ensembles in the country. Maestro Pavel Kogan took up the position of Music Director and Chief Conductor of the orchestra in 1989 and immediately reformed the group's repertoire, enriching it with works of European and American music and ushering in a new era for the orchestra.
